BRANDON — Brandon Regional Hospital completed the first of three phases on its emergency room expansion.

The project added 22,000 square feet to the emergency room, raising its bed count from 35 to 76, a statement says. It also added a new entrance into the hospital.

The three-phase project will cost $60 million and add 45,000 square feet of space to the emergency room, the statement says. Future phases include centrally located imaging services and a new pediatric ER with 16 rooms. The projected completion date is May of 2017.

Brandon Regional Hospital is a 438-bed facility located at 119 Oakfield Drive. The hospital serves about 120,000 patients each year.
