London tech firm plans 250 jobs in Tampa

TAMPA — TransferWise, a London-based financial technology company, chose Tampa for its first location in the United States.

With the opening of the office, at 4012 Gunn Highway, TransferWise plans to hire up to 250 employees within the next three years, according to a statement. It has already hired nearly 50 people, the release adds.

Founded in 2011, TransferWise is an international money transfer company, using peer-to-peer technology, that handles more than $750 million a month worldwide. Joe Cross, TransferWise's U.S. general manager, calls the expansion into Tampa an easy decision.

“TransferWise is all about our customers and giving them an incredible experience and service,” Cross says. “Unlike the banks, we don't just say that, we truly mean it, and there's just something about Tampa that gives us access to great people who feel the same way.”
