NAPLES — The Club Pelican Bay, a private member-owned golf club in the Pelican Bay neighborhood of Naples, plans to build a $27 million clubhouse.

The club plans to start building the new two-story clubhouse to replace the current 35-year-old facility in May 2016. It is tentatively scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017. The club has not yet selected the construction firms and architects.

The Club Pelican Bay has 27 holes designed by Arthur Hills, with six tee locations on each hole. The new clubhouse will look out over the fairway, lake and the club's ninth hole.

Covered and open decks will run the length of the clubhouse and include new fire pits and increased capacity for outdoor dining. The club's new fitness center and spa will be added upstairs over the cart building, which will include a golf-training area.

Construction will take place in stages so it won't interrupt the use by members. The new cart building will be completed before the clubhouse is razed, and its second floor will be used as a temporary clubhouse with a kitchen and outdoor dining. The building that houses the men's and ladies' locker rooms will be renovated during construction.
