Airport sees gains in people, plus stuff

FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport traffic continues to grow, as the airport handled 481,512 passengers in June.

That represented a 0.6% increase compared to the same month last year. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4% from the same period in 2014.

The airline traffic leader in June was Delta with 118,259 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. After Delta, the top other airlines were Southwest, JetBlue, US Airways and American.

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,749 takeoffs and landings in June, up 1.7% compared to June 2014. In addition, nearly 2.5 million pounds of airfreight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June, an increase of 8.3% over June 2014.

Southwest Florida International Airport is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
