ST. PETERSBURG — Jabil Circuit Inc. (symbol: JBL; recent price: $21.20) has announced a deal with Pelican Imaging to create a specialty camera component for the Santa Clara, Calif.-based imaging company. The two companies are collaborating to produce a high-resolution array camera module with accurate depth perception.

The new camera is scheduled be made widely available in the second quarter.

Array cameras capture more information about a scene when a picture is taken allowing users to refocus and make a wider range of edits to an image after the picture is taken. The cameras, which can be included in smartphones, can also be used to create 3D scans.

“We're excited to be partnering with a company with such scale and global reach,” Pelican Imaging CEO and President Chris Pickett says in a press release. “The team at Jabil deeply understands this technology, which allows us to quickly bring new products to market that leverage Pelican's software solutions.”
