PLANS, DESCRIPTION:
Tampa General Hospital purchased 17.4 acres near the northwest corner of Interstate 75 and the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway for $5.8 million.

The price equated to $333,333 per acre.

The property, which has 13.3 acres of developable land, abuts a parcel with Bass Pro Shops and TopGolf.

A new jointly owned nonprofit company of Tampa General Hospital and Florida Hospital plans to create a new outpatient medical center on the parcel. The new facility, which is being called Healthplex, will include a freestanding emergency room, ambulatory surgery center, imaging services, physical therapy and physician offices. The building will have roughly 100,000 square feet of space and three or four stories.

“We haven't designed it yet, so now that we own the land we will begin working on the design,” says Mark Anderson, senior vice president for Ambulatory Services for Tampa General Hospital. “We are also looking at whether we will use a developer or construct it ourselves. That is a growing market This is where much of our future patient volume is going to come from.”

Anderson says the hospitals are still in discussions on how operations of the facility will be handled. The new medical facility is scheduled to open in late 2016 or early 2017.
