The Wicked Dolphin billboard on Interstate 75 continues to make social media waves — even though it was taken down months ago.

You've probably chuckled at this billboard for Wicked Dolphin rum under the one advertising a low-cost vasectomy. “Ouch!” screams the Wicked Dolphin billboard below it. “Looks like you could use some Wicked Dolphin rum!”

Wicked Dolphin founder JoAnn Elardo spotted the vacant spot beneath the vasectomy billboard while driving north from Fort Myers a little more than a year ago on I-75. She decided to have a little cheeky fun.

The billboard got a lot of attention, including mentions on Huffington Post and CNBC. “We got over 75,000 hits on Facebook in a week,” Elardo says. “It really got our name out there, which is great.”

After the yearlong billboard contract ran out a few months ago, Wicked Dolphin opted not to renew it. But the photo of the billboard continues to make the rounds on social media as people share it with friends. “People were upset we took it down,” Elardo says.

“We'll probably do it again, but we'll do it in other location,” says Elardo, who is considering renting billboard space on Interstate 95. “Those vasectomy ads are all over the place.”
