FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport reported the first year-over-year monthly drop in passenger traffic in July in nearly two years.
The Lee County Port Authority reported 492,114 passengers passed through the Fort Myers airport in July, a 0.9% drop compared with July 2014. This is the first year-over-year monthly decline since November 2013 when passenger traffic dropped nearly 3%.
For the year to date, Southwest Florida International's passenger traffic is up 3.9% compared with the first seven months of 2014. It had a record-breaking March with more than 1.18 million passengers that month.
Delta carried 24% of the passengers in July, followed by Southwest with nearly 22%. JetBlue, USAirways and American rounded out the top five airlines with the most passengers.
