The new owner of a three-story Bradenton office building anchored by the Bradenton Herald newspaper is a company controlled by a London-based executive with ties to a diversified mining and investment firm.
The Riverview Complex LLC, which bought the 1111 Third Ave. W. building earlier this month for $3.2 million, is managed by Brian Wides, according to state records.
Wides, 70, is the retired chief executive officer and executive director of international business development at Anglo Pacific Group plc, records show. Wides, who was the company's CEO from July 2006 to October 2010, left Anglo Pacific in May 2014. Company officials credited him with expanding the company from a small mining concern to an international corporation, according to Bloomberg Business.
Today, the company has operations in Spain, Brazil, Australia and Greenland, according to a 2014 annual report.
Wides could not be reached for comment. Riverview acquired the 34,000-square-foot building from Miller Enterprises of Manatee Inc. and Riverview Center Associates, records show. In addition to the Bradenton Herald, which occupies about half of the building, the offices are fully leased to the law firm of Dye, Deitrich, Petruff & St. Paul and others.
The building was completed in 1938 as a showroom for the Cox Chevrolet automobile dealership. Cox moved from the Third Avenue property in 1978 and the building was converted to offices in the mid-1980s, Manatee County property records indicate.
Riverview was represented in the transaction by Focus Commercial Real Estate broker Anthony Homer, while Hugh Miller of CMI Associates and Debra Cooper of Sperry Van Ness Commercial Advisory Group negotiated on behalf of the sellers, according to a press release from Sperry Van Ness.
