SARASOTA — One of the largest mental and behavioral health practices in Florida, Comprehensive MedPsych Systems, has moved into a new headquarters in Sarasota, part of a $2 million expansion project.
Comprehensive MedPsych, which treats patients onsite at its own offices and in the rehabilitation and medical units at several area hospitals, also recently opened offices in Sun City Center and Port Charlotte. The list of hospitals it works it, according to a statement, includes Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Doctors Hospital, HealthSouth, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Venice Regional and Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
The new headquarters, 10,000 square feet on two floors, is on U.S. 41, just south of downtown Sarasota. The building is less than a mile from its previous location, which was around 6,000 square feet. The move, says Dr. Geoffrey Kanter, who founded Comprehensive MedPsych in 1998, was necessary because the practice has “expanded beyond capacity.” The purchase of the building and an extensive renovation will cost about $2.1 million, Kanter adds in an interview.
Comprehensive MedPsych has a staff of about 35 psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, psychologists, psychotherapists, neuropsychology residents and interns who work at multiple locations on the Gulf Coast. The practice, according to the statement, provides an extensive and specialized range of mental and behavioral health services, including medication management, memory and cognitive testing, psychoeducational and gifted evaluations and counseling/psychotherapy. Comprehensive MedPsych, in total, has 18 offices and more than 90 clinicians who provide services in Florida, Alabama and Indiana.
