FORT MYERS — Data destruction firm CD ROM won a long-term contract with the federal government to destroy sensitive data and equipment.

The Fort Myers-based company says the contract with the General Services Administration also includes the destruction of military data and electronic equipment. The contract's value was not disclosed.

“CD ROM, now into its 28th year of continuous and successful operation, has greatly expanded its product and services offering with the addition of this destruction services contract,” Roger Hutchison, president of CD ROM, says in a statement.

The contract is scheduled to last five years, through July 2020, with subsequent three five-year extensions.

“For more than two decades, we have manufactured high-security products to destroy sensitive data on electronic media,” says Hutchison, in the statement. “Now we can also offer a high-security service for our government clients who would prefer a service for their destruction and electronics recycling needs.”
