Developer starts $30 million senior-housing complex

BONITA SPRINGS — Discovery Senior Living plans to build a $30 million senior-housing apartment complex in Bradenton next month that is scheduled to be complete in November 2015.

Bonita Springs-based Discovery acquired the site late last year, an 11-acre parcel at 1414 69th Avenue West in Bradenton for $2.4 million.

Discovery Village At Sarasota Bay will include a three-story wing of 30 apartments for supervised independent living, a three-story wing of 66 apartments for assisted living and a one-story wing of 30 suites for memory care. The company did not disclose rents in a statement announcing the start of construction.

Features and amenities will include three gourmet meals with tableside service daily in the clubhouse, complimentary scheduled transportation, an on-site medical director, concierge services, housekeeping, and a full calendar of social and recreational activities. The clubhouse also will have a game room, a bistro and ice cream parlor, bar and lounge, a movie theater, a wellness center, an indoor heated wellness pool, a beauty salon and spa with barber shop, media center with cognitive brain fitness and a multifunctional art, hobby and craft center.

The Douglas Company is the general building construction management firm in charge of construction. The Midwest-based firm has offices in Ohio and Florida and specializes in senior-housing projects.

Discovery owns and operates senior-living communities in Florida under the brand name of Discovery Village, where more than 1,000 apartment homes are under development in Naples, Fort Myers, Tampa, Palm Beach Gardens, Sarasota and Palm Coast.
