The City of Bonita Springs targets a developer to purchase or lease a prime 5.3-acre parcel in the middle of its rejuvenated downtown.

The Lee County city acquired the key waterfront property on Goodwin Street east of Old U.S. 41 in 2003 for $2.6 million. It used to be the Bamboo Village Mobile Home Park and it has since been cleared and stands vacant.

The parcel is in a central location along the banks of the Imperial River and it could serve as an anchor to the downtown area, according to a request for proposals from the city. The river provides direct access to Estero Bay.

The land is adjacent to Riverside Park, where the city regularly holds concerts, art shows and other public events that draw crowds. The city is looking for a water-oriented development with mixed uses such as shops, restaurants, art galleries, a hotel and a multifamily component.

Bonita Springs has outsourced many of its government services to the private sector. It has created a developer-friendly reputation for fast permitting and supporting development with infrastructure such as storm water drainage, parking and road improvements.
