Cheapskates rejoice: Tampa is the second most affordable place to rent a car in the country, behind only Orlando, tied with Fort Lauderdale and ahead of Las Vegas and San Diego.

The results are part of a new survey from cheapcarrental.net, which compared 50 U.S. destinations based on airport car rental rates over the past 12 months. The average daily rate for the cheapest available car in Tampa in that time frame was $26 — $1 more than Orlando.

Things get a little costlier on the other side of the state: The least expensive car in Miami, according to the survey, cost $31 a day and in West Palm Beach it was $38. That figure was $45 a day in Jacksonville.

But those rates are a bean counter's paradise compared to the most expensive places to rent cars in the country. New York City takes top prize there, with an average daily rate of $76. Detroit is second at $69, Memphis is third at $67 and Baltimore is fourth at $65. New Orleans came in fifth place, at $63.
