AT&T is on a Florida hiring surge and the telecommunications giant has 450 openings statewide.

The company hired 3,000 people in Florida last year, according to a release. Those positions included wire technicians; retail; call center; IT/engineering; consumer sales; and corporate support.

The openings include 200 new jobs, the company says. Many of those openings are to support what AT&T calls Project Velocity IP, a multibillion dollar investment in broadband networks that support high-speed Internet and mobile, app and cloud-based services. AT&T plans to add more cell sites in Florida and nationwide for the project, the release states.

“AT&T continues to expand its customer base in Florida and invest in our networks to ensure we are providing the high level of service customers have come to expect,” AT&T Florida President Joe York says in the release. “These jobs are part of our commitment to this level of customer service and to support our growth in Florida.”

AT&T currently employs more than 15,000 employees throughout Florida.
