SARASOTA — L-3 Aviation Products, a Sarasota-based division of aerospace and defense contractor L-3, has been selected to supply cockpit voice and data recorders for a new line of Embraer jets.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Embraer selected the L-3 products for its E-Jets E2 commercial aircraft line, according to a release. L3 is now the leading supplier of flight recording systems, commonly called black boxes, on all Embraer planes.

“L-3 is very pleased that Embraer has selected our FA5003 CVDRs for the second generation of their E-Jets family, the E2,” L-3 Aviation Products vice president of marketing and sales Ralph DeMarco says in a release. “Embraer is a long-standing L-3 customer and we are committed to supporting their production needs for many years to come.”

L-3 Aviation Products manufactures voice and data recorders, collision avoidance systems, navigation products, display systems and processors from its Sarasota facility. It's parent firm, L-3, is a $12.6 billion firm based in New York City.
