It's a good thing that filing documents with Collier County's Clerk of Circuit Court has an electronic option.

That's because at 9:31 a.m. on June 25 Collier Clerk of Circuit Court Dwight Brock announced his office had recorded the 5 millionth document: a notice of commencement on a piece of real estate.
The volume has been exponential. On April 29, 1986, Collier County recorded document No. 1 million. At the time, the recording department's staff manually entered all documents.

Today, the clerk's staff records more than 600 documents per day. Thankfully, the clerk's electronic system now allows people to file documents remotely, a task that would surely be daunting without computers.
