BONITA SPRINGS — WCI Communities, the publicly traded developer and homebuilder, says it has appointed John Ferry III as vice president and chief accounting officer.

In a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, WCI says Ferry joined WCI in 1995 and became corporate controller in 1997. He was later promoted to vice president of finance until 2009, after which he oversaw the company's asset sales during the recession.

WCI emerged from bankruptcy reorganization in 2009 and sales have rebounded in the housing recovery. The company sold shares to the public last year in an initial public offering and the company's stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: WCIC; recent price: $19).
