FORT MYERS — Discount carrier Spirit Airlines will inaugurate seasonal nonstop flights from Southwest Florida International Airport to the Pittsburgh area beginning tomorrow.

This is the first time any airline has provided nonstop service from Fort Myers to Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, Pa., according to the Lee County Port Authority.

Spirit will fly from Fort Myers to Pittsburgh three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The inaugural flight will arrive tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

Headquartered in Miramar, Spirit recently reported revenue passenger miles grew 15.7% in November compared with the same month one year ago. About 82% of its flights were full last month, the airline reported. “Thanksgiving bookings were strong and forward bookings for the peak holiday season in December also look strong,” the company says in a statement.
