SARASOTA — Wireless communication firm xG Technology has been awarded a new patent for an automated system that connects users of its xMax broadband system during emergency response situations.

Under the new system emergency response teams at a disaster scene can automatically connect their devices to a registration server, the Sarasota-based firm says in a release. The system works on any type of device, the firm adds.

xG Technology, now with 52 patents, is publicly traded on the Nasdaq under the symbol XGTI. (Recent price: $1) The firm sold $1.33 million of common stock last month.

“This latest innovation is extremely valuable in fast-breaking and chaotic situations like disaster relief and recovery operations, where various public agencies and private organizations must dynamically join in communications without advance preparation,” xG CEO John Coleman says in the release. “The immediacy of this system is of considerable value to any emergency, public safety or military teams charged with dynamic response to natural or manmade crisis situations.”
