SARASOTA — Daily nonstop flights between Sarasota-Bradenton and the New York City area during peak tourism and snowbird season have expanded, courtesy of United Airlines.
The daily service, according to a release, will go from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, known by the call letters SRQ, to United's New York hub at Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J. The flights, on 154-seat Boeing 737-800 aircrafts, will run from Feb. 12 through May 5. The Newark flight to Sarasota-Bradenton is scheduled to leave at 10 a.m. and arrive at 12:56 p.m. The Sarasota-Bradenton flight to Newark is s scheduled to leave at 1:41 p.m. and arrive at 4:21 p.m.
The United flights will complement Jet Blue and Delta, which already provide nonstop service to the New York area out of SRQ. United also offers daily nonstop service out of SRQ to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. United launched that service in 2012, after a 17-year absence from the airport.
“This is exciting news for our customers in the Sarasota area and for thousands of potential new visitors to this vibrant Gulf Coast community,” United sales manager Michael Brooks says in the release. “The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and the community have provided strong support for our Chicago service and we look forward to a great partnership with these new flights to our New York/Newark gateway hub.”
