This is not another lawyer joke.

Apparently, the addiction rate for attorneys is roughly twice that of the general population. And the problem is getting worse, says Patrick Krill, the director of Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation's legal professionals program.

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, which operates a treatment center in Naples, says it's launched a research project with the American Bar Association to survey addiction, depression and anxiety among attorneys.

The survey and research is designed to help find better ways of finding treatment for attorneys who suffer from such maladies. In addition, it will help the association develop guidelines for related discipline and malpractice issues.
