Wireless firm nabs part of $497M contract

SARASOTA — Wireless communications firm xG Technology was named a subcontractor on a $497 million contract to provide communications and networking services for the U.S. Army.

This is the second subcontract for Sarasota-based xG with CACI International, according to a release. Arlington, Va.-based CACI provides communications and network services for the Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center. xG Technology will provide research, development and evaluation of a variety of cognitive radio systems for its end of the contract.

“We are honored to have been selected by CACI to participate as a subcontractor on this project, which will leverage our proven cutting-edge expertise in cognitive radio technologies to help improve the effectiveness of tactical communications,” xG Technology CEO John Coleman says in the release.

xG is publicly traded on the Nasdaq under XGTI (recent price: $2.23) The firm markets and sells a patented system for Internet-based phone calls. It has more than 200 patents and pending patent applications worldwide, including 60 in the United States.
