FORT MYERS — The Joint Commission, the nation's largest health care standard-setting organization, has accredited Park Royal Hospital in Fort Myers.

Park Royal provides mental-health and substance-abuse treatment services with 103 beds at a facility in Fort Myers that opened in 2012. The Joint Commission evaluates more than 20,000 health care organizations in the U.S. and is the oldest and largest accrediting body in health care.

“With Joint Commission accreditation, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down,” says Michael Evans, Park Royal's CEO, in a statement. “Joint Commission accreditation provides us a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps create a culture of excellence.”

Park Royal Hospital underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in March. A team of Joint Commission experts evaluated Park Royal for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.

“In achieving Joint Commission accreditation, Park Royal Hospital has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients,” says Mark Pelletier, chief operating officer for the division of accreditation and certification operations for The Joint Commission, in a statement. “Accreditation is a voluntary process and I commend Park Royal Hospital for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”
