ESTERO — Hertz selected New York City-based Turner Construction to build its headquarters in south Lee County, beating out Florida-based construction firms for the high-profile project.

In a statement, Hertz says Turner plans to break ground later this year and complete the building in 2015. It will be located near the corner of Williams Road and U.S. 41 in Estero.

Hertz announced in May it plans to relocate its global headquarters to Southwest Florida from New Jersey. Its executives will work from offices in Naples while the headquarters building is under construction.

The headquarters building will house about 700 employees when it's completed, Hertz says. Construction industry executives have anticipated the announcement of the construction award, which has been estimated by economic development officials to total $68 million.
