Quality Distribution CEO named board chairman
Tampa-based Quality Distribution Inc. has elected its CEO Gary Enzor to chairman of the board of directors and named Alan H. Schumacher to the newly created position of lead independent director.

Enzor succeeds Thomas White, who resigned from the board in connection with the recently completed sale of shares by shareholders, including Apollo Global Management LLC.

As lead independent director, Schumacher will preside over executive sessions of the independent directors. Four of the five members of the board are independent.

In the past, Schumacher worked in various financial positions at American National Can and American National Can Group, the last four years serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He is also a director of BlueLinx Holdings Inc., EVERTEC Inc., North American Bus Industries, School Bus Holdings Inc. and Noranda Aluminum Holding Corp.

International Display Advertising using Aerva's management platform
St. Petersburg-based International Display Advertising Inc. has signed an agreement with Aerva Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., to provide network management services for the International Display Advertising's display points network worldwide.

Display Points will utilize Aerva's AerWave, a Web-based platform for managing and scheduling content on networked displays, with integration for social media, real-time data feeds and mobile interaction.

Aerva powers digital signage worldwide and most recently concluded a Beats by Dre campaign throughout Times Square. Aerva's other prominent clients include Taco Bell, Kodak, BlackBerry, Mini, Yahoo and Chili's networks.

“We are very pleased with the intuitive nature and the ease of use of the Aerva management systems and the ability to scale from one to a million screens,” Dave Hazzard, president of International Display Advertising, says in a press release.

Microsoft recognizes Tribridge as Solution Partner of the Year
Tribridge has been named Microsoft's U.S. State and Local Government Solution Partner of the Year. The award recognizes Tribridge's use of Microsoft technology in support of public sector agencies and organizations.

Tribridge was recognized for its success in the justice and public safety industry sector through Tribridge Offender Management. The software, which follows an offender from intake to release, is being deployed at the Illinois Department of Corrections and other states and regional jails are implementing it as well.

Tribridge Offender Management uses Microsoft's enterprise platform, including Microsoft Dynamics CRM, SharePoint, SQL Server and Windows.

The award follows Tribridge being recognized as Microsoft's 2012 U.S. State and Local Government Dynamics Partner of the Year.

Amscot Financial opens branch in Pompano Beach, its 218th
Tampa-based Amscot Financial has opened a new branch location at 297 S. Pompano Parkway, Pompano Beach. That brings the number of Amscot Financial branches up to 218.

Founded in 1989, Amscot Financial has branches in 20 Florida counties, including Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee and Sarasota counties. The company employs more than 2,000 people.

GTE Financial COO Williams retires
E.C. Williams, executive vice president and chief operating officer of GTE Financial since June 2010, has retired.

During Williams's time at the credit union, GTE underwent a corporate rebranding from GTE Federal Credit Union, surpassed 200,000 members and was ranked as the 34th-largest mortgage lender out of nearly 7,000 national credit unions.

Before joining GTE Financial, Williams worked for Grow Financial, formerly MacDill Federal Credit Union, from 1990 to 2010 as a money management officer, collections manager, assistant vice president of operations, senior vice president and ultimately, executive vice president and chief operating officer.

It was unknown as of deadline how GTE Financial plans to file the chief operating officer position.

Sarasota's xG Technology awarded eight patents
Sarasota-based wireless communications technology company xG Technology Inc. has been granted eight new patents. The company says the inventions covered by these patents simplify and reduce the cost related to the deployment and operation of fixed and mobile broadband networks.

“The inventions covered in these patents enable xG to offer cost-effective and unique solutions that have the potential to fundamentally change how wireless networks operate in increasingly crowded frequencies and channels,” Joe Bobier, chief technology officer of xG, says in a press release.

xG currently holds a total of 47 U.S. patents and has another 15 patent applications pending. The company's foreign patent portfolio covers 141 patents issued and pending.

Tampa's Car Rental 8 celebrates 8-08-08 birth
Tampa-based online car rental service provider Car Rental 8 is celebrating its fifth year in business. The company, founded on 8-08-08, now offers car rental reservations in 125 countries and 17,000 locations around the world.
