Could Google glasses boost tourism?

The Lee County Visitor and Convention Bureau recently was the first U.S. tourism destination to use the futuristic Google glasses for a promotional effort.

The bureau hosted five testers of the Google eyeglasses for a visit to Lee County. They were selected for their high Klout score, which measures a person's influence on social media.

The Google glasses, which are not yet available in stores, can take photos with a tiny camera and post them on social media. Over the 24 hours they were in the area, the eyeglass testers shared 1,200 images taken using the glasses. Along with this effort, the bureau tied a Facebook contest for a trip to the area and it attracted 25,000 entries.

Sounds like a great way to make new friends.
