PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Jacksonville-based PACE Center for Girls Inc. purchased the 14,187-square-foot former Richard Milburn Academy building for $850,000.

The price equated to $60 per square foot.

The single-story building features eight classrooms and a dedicated computer lab. It was purchased to serve as the new home for PACE Center for Girls, Lee County.

Renovations are expected to start in December for a move-in this February. Most of the improvements are cosmetic, including carpeting and paint, but the nonprofit also plans to construct a new bathroom and remove a lanai. The PACE Center for Girls, Lee County has started fundraising for the $400,000 needed to pay for the renovations.

“This new location should save us $11,000 a month in rent,” says Dolly Farrell, development director for the PACE Center for Girls Inc., Lee County. “Our existing building is in the foreclosure process. The new building should allow us to serve 60 to 100 more girls; it gives us three extra classrooms.”

PACE Center for Girls, Lee County raised $764,000 for its $2 million “Dream BIG” Capital Campaign, which covered the initial purchase.

Lee Memorial Health System has donated the land under the building location, to PACE. The building was previously covered through a land lease.
