FORT MYERS — Builders in Lee County continued to pull permits for new homes and commercial buildings in October, reflecting continued optimism about the upcoming winter selling season.

Homebuilders in October pulled 70 permits to build single-family homes in Lee County, a 67% increase over the same month one year ago, according to the Lee County Community Development Department.

Also in October, builders pulled permits to build 44 multifamily homes, more than double the 18 they pulled in October 2012.

Commercial contractors pulled permits valued at $7.7 million in October, a significant increase over the $1.3 million worth they pulled in the same month in 2012.
