Florida is one of the top states in the country for providing retraining assistance to veterans, according to the state's Department of Economic Opportunity.

The state, through partnerships with Workforce Florida and private companies, has enrolled 3,842 veterans for training to prepare them for high-skilled, high-waged jobs in 2013, the DEO says in a statement. That's the second-highest amount in the country, the DEO reports. The state works with the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

“One issue we are proud to work on at DEO is helping serve those that served our country. Veterans offer Florida's businesses the benefits of talent, training, education, leadership, maturity, and dedication learned in military service,” DEO Executive Director Jesse Panuccio says in the release. “Florida is home to a population of 1.5 million veterans and initiatives like the Veteran's Retraining Assistance Program and Paychecks for Patriots are a great support and resource for our veterans.”
