PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. purchased roughly 20 acres of land at the northwest corner of Bearss and Nebraska avenues for $5.6 million.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based retail giant plans to develop a 147,848-square-foot supercenter with a large garden center on the site. Wal-Mart also told Hillsborough County government it would construct a 5,300-square-foot convenience store on a portion of the property with gas service at 16 vehicle-fueling stations. Several news reports have identified the gas station store as a WaWa, but that was not confirmed as of deadline.

Wal-Mart did not responded to multiple requests for comments on the new development prior to deadline.
