The Liberty Group has opened the new Best Western Plus in Tampa. The hotel, which was previously operated as a Comfort Inn, was purchased by the Liberty Group in February 2012 for $1.5 million.

The new owner says it has invested nearly $1 million during the past year to reposition the property at 2003 S. Frontage Road.

“This hotel was certainly underperforming and had been mismanaged by the prior owner,” Punit Shah, president and chief operating officer of the Liberty Group, says in a press release. “We were able to acquire it far below replacement cost and have invested in capital expenditures, up-branding, and in training the hotel management team to implement our turn-around strategy.”

The property features 60 rooms and suites, an updated fitness center, business center and an outdoor pool.

Liberty Hospitality Management will manage the hotel.
