We all know there's plenty of golf available in Southwest Florida, but it turns out two areas of the Gulf Coast rank among the top 10 in the country on a hole-per-capita basis.

Based on 2012 population, a survey by the National Golf Foundation says the Naples-Marco Island area ranks as the No. 1 location in the country for golf holes per person, with 212 people per hole.

Other areas of the Gulf Coast were not far behind. Cape Coral-Fort Myers ranked seventh in the nation with 393 people per hole. North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota ranked 15th in the nation with 469 people per hole and the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area ranked 168th with 1,115 people per hole.

Of course, areas such as Naples and Fort Myers see seasonal population grow in the winter, so that may skew the numbers and crowd the fairways. Still, Naples tourism officials can tout the area as the No. 1 golf destination.
