Longboat Key could soon get an injection of new condominium inventory.

Michael Saunders & Co. recently announced plans for an 11-unit Infinity Longboat Key condominium project at 4765 Gulf of Mexico Drive on the site previously approved for the Bleu Claire. Bleu Claire, which was unveiled in 2007, was put on hold because of the economic downturn.

“Basically, it's the same building footprint, but the design element of it has been modified slightly to reflect a more contemporary look,” says Randy Moore, managing partner of Atlanta-based developer Crossgate Partners LLC, which was the original developer of the Bleu Claire project. “The look has been updated to reflect the market. We have a coastal-contemporary look. We wanted to get away from the Mediterranean look that was developed for Longboat Key condominiums seven years ago,” Moore said.

Michael Saunders & Co.'s New Homes & Condominium Division is handling sales of the units.

The project will house nine three- to four-bedroom units and two penthouse units ranging from $2.83 to $4.95 million.

Floor plans will range from 3,380 to 5,456 square feet.

Sarasota architect Mark Sultana, of DSDG Architects, is the designer.

Each unit will have terraces ranging from 1,202 square feet to 1,940 square feet, with Sarasota Bay and Gulf of Mexico views. Other amenities include private garages and elevator entries, a beachfront pool and spa, fitness center, clubhouse and tennis court.

The project will not require a new site plan, according to Moore, because only minor changes are planned for the building itself. The company has until December to obtain building permits for the condominium.

Half of the units will have to be under contract before construction can begin. Construction of the project is expected to take one year.

The project will be the first new condominium construction on the Key in nearly seven years.
