SARASOTA — Local nonprofit consultant Bob Carter has been named chair of the National Aquarium Institute Board of Directors.

The institute board oversees the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the National Aquarium in Washington, D.C., according to a release. Carter, who is also the board chair-emeritus for the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, has been on the board since 2008.

“I am delighted to help lead the National Aquarium in its contributions to the Baltimore and Maryland communities as well as expanding its reputation as a national and international voice for conservation,” Carter says in a release. “I grew up around the Chesapeake Bay and have a lifelong commitment to cleaning up and protecting it and oceans, bays and estuaries around the world.”

Carter's Sarasota-based firm, Bob Carter Companies, helps nonprofit companies worldwide implement strategies for fundraising. The company has a second office in Mexico City.
