Dear Editor,
Referring to your column in the June 14 Business Observer, “Sorry, not enough people have died yet,” I was interested in the argument put forth by Naples Community Healthcare System North Naples. They stated, among other things, that they would stand to lose operating surplus of 46% because of the new competition that would come if an acute care satellite hospital went in at Bonita Springs.
Forty-six percent is a huge chunk of operating surplus. Which leads me to conclude that there are a large number of people from Bonita Springs being treated in the Naples Community Healthcare System. Which then makes me think that the residents of Bonita Springs very badly need an acute care center in their community.
From a human and humane point of view, it seems to me that their argument against an acute care satellite hospital is a stronger argument for it.
