BRADENTON — Sherod Halliburton has been named president of Manatee Community Federal Credit Union, one of the oldest financial institutions in the county.

Halliburton, whom the credit union hired in February 2012 as an executive vice president, will replace longtime president Cindy Barco, according to a release. Barco is retiring after 35 years.

“Mr. Halliburton has connections deeply rooted in the community and provides the credit union the ability to deliver financial services and programs that are much needed by our members,” credit union CFO and board member Vin Foderingham says in the statement. “The credit union has a great future ahead of it and with Sherod's leadership there's no doubt that we will reach another level of success. We certainly thank Cindy Barco for her exemplary service over the years and wish her well in her retirement.”

Halliburton, before he joined the credit union, was the executive director for the Bradenton Central Community Redevelopment Agency. He helped launch three organizations while at the CCRA, according to the release, including the Central Economic Development Center; the CareerEdge Funders Collaborative; and Suncoast Community Capital.

Manatee Community Federal Credit Union was founded in 1958, when it was the Tropicana Employees Federal Credit Union.
