Southwest adds new Fort Myers nonstops

FORT MYERS — Southwest Airlines announced plans to add three nonstop seasonal routes to Southwest Florida International Airport.

The discount airline will fly nonstop on Saturdays from Fort Myers to Albany, N.Y., Denver and Kansas City beginning March 8, 2014.

Fort Myers airport officials have been particularly focused on opening up nonstop routes to the western U.S. Denver is a gateway to California and other destinations on the west coast.

Southwest, which combined with AirTran, carried 122,483 passengers through the Fort Myers airport in July. When counted together, the two airlines carried the most passengers to and from Fort Myers last month.
