Two local airports land more flights

ST. PETERSBURG — Allegiant announced it will add new, nonstop flights from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport to six cities and from Punta Gorda Airport to Islip/Long Island, N.Y. over the next few months.

The airline will start by offering service from St. Pete-Clearwater to Newburgh/Stewart, N.Y., on Oct. 31. A day later is will also offer flights to Elmira, N.Y., and Sioux Falls, S.D. Service to Syracuse, N.Y., will start on Nov. 7, followed finally by Columbus Rickenbacker in Ohio and Fargo, N.D., on Nov. 23.

The new flight from Punta Gorda Airport to Islip/Long Island, N.Y. will start Dec. 20.

“We are pleased to bring more convenient, low-cost vacation options to more communities,” Andrew Levy, Allegiant Travel Co.'s president, says in a press release.

Allegiant began service from Pete-Clearwater International Airport nearly seven years ago with 12 cities. Following the additional routes, it will have 31 non-stop flights.

All totaled, Allegiant announced 18 new routes and service to 10 new cities, marking 99 U.S. cities served by the carrier.
