Homebuilder appointed to Citizens

CAPE CORAL — Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford appointed former State Rep. Gary Aubuchon to the board of governors of Citizens Property Insurance Corp.

Aubuchon, a Cape Coral entrepreneur who runs a homebuilding company and residential brokerage firm, will serve a three-year term on the board of the state insurer.

“As a former ranking member of the Florida House, Mr. Aubuchon will bring much needed political sensitivity to this highly technical position,” says a statement from Carlos Lacasa, whose term expired July 31 and whose seat Aubuchon is filling.

Aubuchon served as a state representative for six years, rising to become chairman of the Rules and Calendar Committee. In 2012, he lost his bid for U.S. Congress and has returned to running his homebuilding company.
