It's been nearly seven years since the new terminal at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers opened and the old terminal was torn down.

Now that the economy's perking up again, airport officials are renewing marketing efforts to lease the land on which the old terminal was located. Several attempts to develop the property failed because of the economic slump, but airport officials say their inquiries are growing.

To attract business, the airport will now pay brokers a 5% commission on leases, says Mark Busalacchi, the airport's properties department director.

The Lee County Port Authority owns 1,100 acres available for development. That includes 75 acres on the airport ramp and 280 acres for aviation development. Daniels Parkway, the road that feeds into the property, has been widened and the new JetBlue Park spring training home for the Boston Red Sox recently opened nearby.
