NAPLES — Naples Municipal Airport recently secured government funds to expand the taxiway and improve water drainage on the airfield.

The Naples airport secured $1.2 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation, the first of several grants that could total $8 million to $9 million.

“Grants are a very competitive business, and getting this one is a particularly important accomplishment,” says Airport Authority Executive Director Ted Soliday in a statement.

The airport has been in discussions with commercial airlines to restart scheduled passenger service to Naples. For example, discount airline JetBlue has indicated it is interested in providing air service from Naples to several New York airports.
