SARASOTA — Sara Rankin Wilson, a onetime elected official from Ohio, has been named CEO at GWIZ-The Science Museum, a nonprofit learning center in downtown Sarasota.

Rankin Wilson replaces Molly Demeulenaere, who left last month to take a position with the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa. “Sara brings an exceptional proven track record of nonprofit management and donor development to GWIZ,” says GWIZ Board Chairperson Kelley Lear in a statement.

Rankin Wilson was most recently interim co-president and vice president of resource development for the United Way of Manatee County and the United Way Foundation, according to the statement. She has also held executive roles with the American Lung Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Prior to nonprofits, Rankin Wilson was elected Clerk Treasurer for a municipality in Ohio. She supervised taxing, collections, resolutions, ordinances, and public record laws in that role.
