NAPLES — JetBlue is considering starting nonstop service from New York airports to Naples Municipal Airport, according to airport officials and correspondence with the airline.

The discount airline has requested a waiver from the airport that limits the size of the aircraft that can land in Naples. JetBlue already serves the area at nearby Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

Last year, the Naples airport paved both ends of the runway, extending the takeoff distance and allowing for larger jets to take off more safely. The last major carrier to fly into Naples was Delta, which pulled out of the market in 2007.
