FORT MYERS — Southwest Airlines says it plans to launch one daily nonstop from Fort Myers to Nashville this winter.

The new service to Nashville from Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers will be available in January, the airline says.

Southwest recently announced it will discontinue the three daily flights from Fort Myers to Orlando in November, which has been the way many visitors from the mid-South fly to Fort Myers.

Orlando has become a hub for Southwest and many passengers to Fort Myers on that airline connect through that gateway. If the Nashville service is successful, that could provide a new gateway for Fort Myers passengers.
