TALLAHASSEE -- The House Economic Affairs Committee approved regulatory changes to the state's 24 regional workforce boards that expand Gov. Rick Scott's oversight of those entities.

For example, the measure allows Scott to dismiss any board member or executive director from any such organization for “just cause,” according to The News Service of Florida.

HB 7023 also requires board members to submit financial disclosures, the News Service says.

The state's workforce agencies came under close scrutiny when one of the 24 -- Workforce Central Florida in Orlando -- spent $14,000 on 6,000 red capes in a superhero-themed campaign aimed at empowering the unemployed.

"Unfortunately, the staffs have abused these dollars and it's time to correct the system," Rep. Mike Horner, R-Kissimmee, tells the News Service.
