Florida Medical Clinic taking over former Borders

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Land O'Lakes-based Florida Medical Clinic PA purchased the 30,000-square-foot former Borders Carrollwood store for $3.85 million.

The price equated to $128 per square foot.

Borders closed the store in February as part of its bankruptcy process.

The multi-specialty clinic plans to redevelop the building as a medical office to consolidate a number of its existing smaller offices in that area.

“It's close to St. Joseph's [Hospital], which will be great for our surgeons,” says Janet Wing, director of marketing for Florida Medical Clinic. “The location is excellent with great corner access. It's convenient for our patients to find us, and it allows us to locate all our ancillary patient services under one roof.”

The clinic plans to locate a number of specialties in the building including primary care; ear, nose and throat; cardiology; and orthopedics.

Florida Medical Clinic is currently scheduled to open the new location in the fourth quarter.

The clinic has grown from just five physicians in 1993 to 150 physicians and 20 locations.

The purchase entity FMC Dale Mabry LLC mortgaged the property to SunTrust Bank for $3.03 million.
