Sarasota brokerage and developer Barry D. Edwards & Associates Inc., Sarasota-based tax attorney Joe Patane, and Tierra Verde-based MPH Hotels Inc. are moving forward with plans for a new hotel on Honore Avenue in Sarasota. The partnership, which operates as Clark Station Retail Sarasota LLLP, has filed a final site plan to develop a 97-room Comfort Suites limited-services hotel north of Clark Road.

“This is going to be similar to the one on University,” says Barry Edwards. “We've estimated the cost of construction at $10 million. It is supposed to be [Comfort Suites'] new design. We've already signed our franchise agreement.”

Edwards expects to start construction in February of March.

The three-story hotel will feature a fitness center, conference space and a swimming pool. It will be built and managed by MPH Hotels.

The hotel will occupy 1.2 acres of the 3.5-acre site, and Edwards says he is considering an office building on another portion.

Founded in 2003, MPH Hotels has developed, acquired and/or constructed 16 hotels in six states.
