BUYER: The Humane Society of Collier County Inc. (principals: Leslie King III, Amy Taylor Kelly Lauman, Michael Simonik and Betty Smith), Naples

SELLER: Ambrose Kennels Inc.

PROPERTY: 6551 Bur Oaks Lane, Naples

PRICE: $1.65 million

LAW FIRM ON DEED: Lyons & Lyons PA Law Offices, Bonita Springs

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: The Humane Society of Collier County Inc. purchased the 8.18-acre Ambrose Kennels for $1.65 million.

The price equated to $201,711 per acre.

The property features two 5,000-square-foot buildings. Each of the buildings can house 60 to 100 animals. The Humane Society will continue to lease one of the buildings to its current tenant, Animal Care Unlimited, and plans to use the second building to house animals that previously would have been euthanized in shelters.

“This will increase our holding capacity for dogs and cats and possibly offer us a place to quarantine sick animals,” says Michael Simonik, executive director of the Humane Society Naples. “This kennel has been on our radar for the last 10 years. The price was finally right. We will be going from just seven kennels to 60 kennels allowing us to hold more than 100 dogs rather than just 20 now.”

Simonik says although the buildings are nearly 15 years old they are in good shape and were well maintained. The Humane Society plans to air condition the second kennel building and make improvements to the plumbing and electrical system.

The Naples property is the first property The Humane Society of Collier County owns.

“This gives us the potential to expand for years to come,” Simonik says.
