Books-A-Million hits Ft. Myers

FORT MYERS -- Books-A-Million Inc. (symbol: BAMM) opened a new store in the Edison Mall in Fort Myers this week. The company's newest location represents its second in the Fort Myers market, and its 36th store in Florida.

Books-A-Million operates 210 stores across the United States. In addition to its new Fort Myers location, the Birmingham, Ala.-based company also announced the reopening of its store in Kansas City today.

Books-A-Million's common stock was being traded for slightly more than $2 a share on Friday morning. That price is near the company's all-time low. The stock also set a new 52-week low on Friday, temporarily touching a per-share price of $2.31.

Despite setting new record lows on the market, Books-A-Million has been profitable in each of its last four fiscal years. The company generated $14.3 million in operating profit on $495 million in revenues in 2010.
